ATC Equipment

Communication is vital in air traffic control since the system requires controllers to be in constant communication with pilots and other controllers or workers involved in the air traffic control system.

It goes without saying that air traffic control requires the use of special equipments without which will be difficult or impossible to provide air traffic control service. Some of the equipment used in ATC are:

Communication systems – Very High Frequency VHF radio communication systems, High Frequency HF radio communication systems, Ultra High Frequency UHF radio communication systems; Controller Pilot Datalink Communication systems

Navigation systems – VORs, DMEs, Non directional radio beacons, Radar Based Surveillance systems
Binoculars, Telephones, Desktop Computers
Specialized Software such as the Flight Data Processor
